I'm Graça.
I've been doing organic agriculture for 30 years and for five years, I owned a small vegetarian restaurant in Sintra. Two years ago I've retired and moved to a small farm in the town of Montemor-o-Novo where I live by myself.
Here I've been growing vegetables and a garden at a small scale, for my consumption and to share with family and friends. It's a small paradise. With the help of my children and friends we've planted almost 100 trees on the property, including a mediterranean agroforest.
You would be helping me taking care of the garden and the trees.
I am a founding member (2006) of an association, Colher para Semear (Harvest to Sow), which collects and preserves traditional varieties of seeds of fruits, vegetables, and grains. It's something I do throughout the summer/autumn (seed saving) and I enjoy teaching it.
In the summer it can get very hot outside so we would work only in the early morning and late afternoon. During the day you can bathe on our small basin and take a nap inside the house where it's always nice and fresh.
The accommodation will be in my own home, where you will have your room. Evereything else is common space and shared.
We will share all the meals or most of the meals together.
Here life is simple and quiet, but there is often family and friends visiting!
In Montemor-o-Novo you'll find a dynamic cultural and social life (considering the small size of the town) and you'll have the opportunity to meet my friends (of all ages) and attend cultural events. You will be able to easily reach the town's centre with a bike (that you can borrow) - it's just 15 minutes away in a beautiful cycling lane, or 50 minutes by feet.
I normally go to town (for activities or shopping) 3 times a week. You are welcome to join me.
15 years ago, while living on a larger farm with my family, I've hosted many wwoofers and some of them have become life long friends. I look forward to hosting again!
