Vineyard; olive grove; forest, fruits and flowers
Santarém
Olá Wwoofer, welcome at our beautiful small estate in rural and central Portugal!
We, my husband Leendert, dog Yara and I, Jacqueline are located at the outskirts of a quaint little village in the Ribatejo Area. We have been running this agricultural farm now for almost 5 years. We like to receive friends and family at our place and now we are ready to receive new friends from around the world. We would love to share our experience and adventure of organic produce growing in Portugal and would be very happy with eager minds and well working hands.
Our Vineyard ( 1 ha) does require the most attention and work.
All year round there is something going on. Like pruning, fertilising, mowing, maintenance, harvesting, and in the fall getting ready for the WinterRest.
The Olive grove, the forest, the flower garden and the fruits do require care as well like watering, mesting, pruning and off course the harvesting.
Our goal is to create and maintain large biodiversity and apply optimum care for the environment. " Minimal intervention and maximum attention"
A normal day can look like this:
Outdoor Yoga practice in the morning (besides a farmer, I am also a yoga teacher)
Healthy and hearty breakfast
Working on the land, activity depends on the season and your interest and capacity
Enjoying lunch together on our panoramic terrace
Siesta; swimming (we are so lucky to have a large salt water pool) reading: relaxing in the hammock in the forest or just do nothing!
Maybe a few more hours on the land or assisting in preparing for dinner.
After dinner, enjoy the evening by star gazing or other preferred activities
Noble Silence!
You Wwoofer, will have a nice and comfortable guesthouse at your disposal.
The guesthouse has a spacious bedroom for 2 people and a private bathroom.
I like everything clean and cozy so our guests will feel at home.
From the guesthouse you can dive directly in the pool. How Cool!
For breakfast I offer home made yoghurt with fruit and self made granola.
But other ideas or options are welcome. We will this discuss before you arrive
Lunch is a Dutch one ( we are originally from The Netherlands):
Bread from the Best bakery in town. With Cheese , eggs, humus, jam, soup or salad.
Dinner is for example Fish ( or if you prefer meat) with rice and a lot of veggies.
Of course this varies per day.
Throughout the day you are more than welcome to grab extra foods or drinks for your needs.
In the guesthouse there is also an option to make extra tea or coffee, if you desire.
I love to be creative with cooking. My preference is to eat and cook without meat,
But through experience I know that by working on the land you need to eat well and if that means that meat is required or wished for I will do it with love.
I buy or receive (from dear neighbours) as much organic and local produce as I can.
Every week we will visit the local farmers market.
We can always discuss the choice of food and products and you are more than welcome to join us in the shopping.
My husband and I go dancing every Wednesday evening.
We try to go to the beach once a week for a long stroll with our dog and for an outdoor lunch.
We both like to read and sometimes watch a movie, But almost throughout the whole year the evenings are so nice, that we will stay outdoors, enjoy the sunset and the stars that appear.
We go to bed early and rise at dawn.

I had a great time at Casa do colquico! Jaqueline is really good at making you feel at home at this beautifull place☀️
The guesthouse was very nice, and its off course amazing to have a pool right ouside the door🐳
I also liked the work, I mostly did pruning, spraying, watering and weeding. It was nice having some varierty, and that I often could choose a bit what I wanted to do. I learnt a lot about vineyards and how the whole production works, wich was interesting.
Jaqueline also provided some good homemade lemonade on the hottest days🍋
We also went to some of the villages around, and ate lunch at the place the wine gets produced, so I feel like I got to know the places around a bit as well.
I had really good time, would 100% recomed this place!

Dear Jacqueline & Leendert, thank you both for a fantastic stay!
In April 2026 I stayed for two weeks in Portugal with Jacqueline and Leendert. It was my first WWOF experience, and I was their first WWOF'er and I am super happy for this first good experience! We worked mostly on planting vines for the new vineyard. This was a local grape, which will only be ready to harvest in a few years. However, there are still older grape vines (Shiraz) where Leendert and Jacqueline already make wine from (which is delicious!). Next to grapes, they also have a small number of olive trees, but we didn't work with those.
It was hard work, but we had long breaks in between, and we did some restorative yoga sometimes at the end of the day to give our lower back some rest. On average the day would look as follows: waking up around 8am, eating breakfast, going to the field at 9am, work, coffeebreak at 10:30, continue to work till lunch (around 13/14), siesta until 16, then work for a few more hours till 18/19. After that we had dinner and rest.
On the weekend we did other fun stuff, like going to a local wine festival or to a pilates class in town. Overall I remember the great conversations I had with Jacqueline and Leendert on food, yoga and music. Moreover, Jacqueline has a special ability to create a very welcoming and warm atmosphere, which made me feel at home right away, so thank you for that.
I hope to come back later to help with the olive harvest!
All the best,
Doortje
