Family home and garden - rural
Beja
Welcome WWOOFers! We have a beautiful large biological/permaculture garden from which we produce much of our food, including a variation of different fruit trees (for self consumption).
Our animal husbandry: we have two dogs and chickens.
We have a nice lake where we can sometimes fish. The lake can also be used for swimming and as a recreational area, improving the quality of natural life.
In winter we need help with clearing the land (cutting, moving, burning), treating the garden and preparing fire wood.
Please have a look at our photo gallery to see what we are doing.
I am Angelika, 67 years old, on the 30 of July my husband Dieter died suddenly and I try to go on. For 40 years we have grown fruits, vegetables and meat for self consumption. We live in a smallholding in the region of Baixo Alentejo (12 km from the town of Ourique) 6 km to next pub.
Prior to this, we had a farm in Bavaria, South Germany. We have 3 grown children. Our daughter lives with her husband on a neighboring farm. Our sons live nearby as well and work in alternative energy. Angelika is an artist, and Dieter did land managment and design.
We are interested in WWOOFers who are happy to help throughout the day with the tasks of keeping a farm running. Weekends are free. There are beautiful nature trails to explore. We are a sociable and friendly family, we enjoy the company of others, and are also flexible with personal space. We are serious about self-sufficiency, animals, and nature husbandry. We are interested in and appreciate good, hard-working people! We do not intend to have WWOOFers here when we have nothing to do, so rest assured that we will not waste your time. The work will always flow with the natural seasons, so be prepared to help 5 days a week 6 hours a day in whatever is required.
We offer comfortable accommodation. Wood stove, solar electricity, hot water, washing machine and of course good home cooking.
Organic methods: Permaculture
Certifications: For the last 40 years we created our own system witch works very good for us.
Type of work: Normal running of the farm.

I spent 17 wonderful days at Monte do Compromisso, surrounded by stunning nature and positive energy. This was my first WWOOF experience, and it certainly won’t be my last.
Angelika welcomed me with warmth and generosity. The work was varied and enjoyable from weeding and taking care of the chickens to small repairs, cutting trees, and clearing channels. The hours were flexible, and there was no pressure.
I had a private room, complete privacy, and time for meditation and forest hikes. The meals were delicious, straight from the farm to the table, and Angelika’s cooking — especially her cheesecake — was unforgettable.
The farm, the lake, and Maxi the sweet dog who accompanied me in the fields, were all amazing. But the most special part was Angelika herself kind, generous, cultured, and a skilled musician. She also has a wonderful friend I liked her very much, and we shared many great conversations.
I loved the simple lifestyle, the peace, and the positive energy of this place. I will miss Angelika, Monte do Compromisso, and the charming town of Ourique but I am sure I will return one day.

Adorei a experiência. Abraço carinhoso a toda família.

Thank you for letting us pick the olives and become children again by cutting the olive trees, thanks for the musical evening and for teaching us not to burn the food on the wood stove :)

I had a wonderful time at Angelikas. She was very kind to me, always making sure that the tasks are varied and fitting to my interests. Even though it was a very rainy 2,5 weeks I spent at Monte Compromisso, there was still a lot of opportunities to learn about permaculture, self-sufficiency, gardening and arts&crafts. Also Angelikas family was very welcoming and kind.
Thank you once again for the inspiring and nice time!

I had the most beautiful stay at Monte do Compromisso. Angelika is so kind, warm, and wise and made me feel at home right away. Her home is surrounded by rolling hills in every direction and lovely orange and lemon trees bursting with fruit. I spent most of my time weeding the gardens and preparing them for planting this spring. Highlights: morning and sunset walks with Angelika's dogs Ninja and Maxi, interesting conversations with hearty home-cooked meals, learning how to use a wood stove, feeding the chickens and sheep, and making fresh-squeezed orange juice. I felt purposeful and cared-for and wish I could have stayed for longer.
