En: HUMUS FARM is a multicultural ecological farm where we apply fundamental principles of syntropy, organic and biodynamic agriculture. WHAT WE HAVE We have an orchard with 350 trees, some vegetable garden areas, animal areas and several leisure areas. We are about 40 minutes from Lisbon. There is a grocery store, cafe and restaurant close by. We are 20 minutes from Setubal and Uber already passes by! We are surrounded by vineyards so there is no shortage of wineries. We have a trail right outside the door for nature lovers. WHAT WE WANT Continue to regenerate our orchard. Sow our seeds, plant our garden. Create pallet fences for our vegetable garden and 2 different areas for the animals. We need to improve the mobile chicken coop and also build a dry toilet. We need to create a new elevated structure for our strawberries. We are always “orchard cleaning” bringing the wood to the ground in order to recover our soil. WHO WE ARE We are a family of 6 who live on the farm and a few other workers who work during the day. We do several different activities (workshops, courses) and events (retreats and weddings) at the Farm and we like for wwoofers to participate in them. Methods applied: Agroflorest/Syntropy Certifications: Certiplanet Internet access available throughout the Farm. In our free time, we allow wwoofers to enjoy the pool ONLY when there are no guests there. WHAT WE LOOK FOR: Resident wwoofer who helps take care of the orchard, animals, new construction and monitoring of temporary wwoofers. For temporary stays, minimum 2 weeks and we give preference to people with knowledge in: Organic farming; Gardening; Animals; General construction (work with pallets, dry toilet The stay takes place in our caravan in good conditions. Meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) are eaten in our cafeteria and sometimes with the family. Days off may vary according to events at the Farm. Normally between March and October they are Monday and Tuesday. The other months are on the weekend. We work 3 hours in the morning and 2 in the afternoon. But sometimes we add the hours depending on the work to be done. In summer work starts earlier because of the heat. The only thing we ask wwoofers to bring are work gloves. We meet weekly to plan the work for the week and also the Chefs for the week. LOGISTICS The train station is 200 meters from the Farm. We have a train that comes from Lisbon (Estação do Oriente) every day at 8am during the week and at 10:45am on the weekend. For the return trip, it always leaves at 5:40 pm. There is only this one. That's why this is the best option to get to us, otherwise you can opt for Uber but it will be more expensive. We expect you to respect common areas (such as the bathroom or cafeteria) and always keep them clean and actively contribute to this. Good hearts are always welcome at HUMUS FARM! O QUE PRETENDEMOS Continuar a regenerar o nosso pomar. Fazer as nossas sementeiras, plantar a nossa horta.

I had a very enriching time at Humus Farm! Really appreciated that Ana tried to give me various tasks so i could try my hand at different farm work. The family is also very friendly and generous. I stayed in one of their houses as it was low peak season and it wasn’t occupied, which made it very comfortable. Thank you Ana! I was well taken care of and would love to return in the future 😄❤️

Nice experience at Humus Farm ! Beautiful place, adorable family. Hard work everyday and a lot of sweat (careful with the sun, can be hot there) but worth it ! See you i hope

Ana is an excellent host - I would highly recommend volunteering at Humus Farm! You are well taken care of during your stay. The food is excellent, the caravan is comfortable (it’s nice to have your own living space), and the work can easily vary enough so you’re learning and doing new things all the time. I felt very comfortable here and would come back again!

Our experience was overall an all right first WWOOFing experience. The family was welcoming, the farm was beautiful and the food was really tasty. The farm has had WWOOFFers continuously for the past 7 years making them very accustomed to having volunteers working at the farm. Its located in a small village with not a lot of other things to do, which makes it a good place to relax and focus on other things such as yoga and running. We visited the farm in March which meant preparing a lot for the upcoming planting season. We got to work on preparing for planting season and the work in the orchard was nice but hard. One wish would have been working more together with the hosts instead of almost completely by our own since that would have given us more opportunities to learn properly about organic farming. During our stay there were no events or guests staying at the farm. There was a lot of heavy rain during our stay which made living in the camper a downside with not a lot of space for us to store or dry our clothes after a day of work. We assume that living in the camper works great during summer time when you spend much more of your spare time outside. But for heavy rain days, we felt very confined in the small space knowing that the apartments was not booked for the week. Luckily, we got to move to the apartments the week after which was much better option this time of year.

I stayed for 3 weeks at Humus Farm. The farm is very beautiful and spacious. I worked in the vegetable garden and fed the animals. It is also possible to help out on events at the farm, but this is not mandatory. I felt very comfortable there and everyone was very nice. I would definitely recommend :-)
