About Our Permaculture Farm On our permaculture farm, we respect and utilize the interconnections between living beings and their environment. We work mindfully with resources, using them efficiently to achieve the best possible results. We have already cleared large parts of our land and restored our three small lakes to create an ideal space for farming. Our goal is to cultivate a variety of fruit trees and establish several market garden fields. Additionally, we are developing a self-cleaning natural pond system to sustainably supply the farm with water. Our Approach & Certifications Philipp has completed a permaculture certificate course recognized by the University of Agricultural and Environmental Education in Austria and is passionate about sharing his knowledge. Petra and Tino, both experts in soil improvement and sustainable farming, are also part of our team and equally committed to sharing their experience. How You Can Help We are looking for volunteers to assist with: • Clearing and preparing the land for farming • Planting and watering fruit trees • Caring for small vegetable gardens • Materials for making biochar Our Farming Philosophy We follow permaculture principles and plant only what we love to eat, learning and improving as we go. Accommodation & Facilities • Stay in a caravan equipped with a mattress and bed sheets, your own tent or van. • Warm solar-powered showers available • A fully equipped farm kitchen for vegetable processing and self-catering Other Amenities • Internet access available Current project: 04.03.2026 We build raised beds from existing acacia trunks and Euro pallets. We have had excellent results with these beds. The soil here in the Algarve is either very sandy or very loamy and clayey. This is not the ideal soil for many plants. We therefore use a proven mixture of chicken and horse manure to fill the raised beds. We make biochar from the lushly growing acacia trees to complement the soil. This mixture allows us to double the yield on average. Update 13 April 2026: Our new tomato and pepper greenhouse is now in its second year of operation. We grow the tomatoes ourselves, using varieties that are in some cases very old. We will be able to harvest the first fruits from around mid-May. The taste of a tomato ripened in the Portuguese sun is simply sensational. A great deal of the sun’s energy shines through into the greenhouse, giving the fruit an incomparable flavour. We are always happy to share our harvest with our guests and WWOOFers when the harvest season brings us a bountiful yield.

We stayed at this place for nine days and had a good time. The farm is located in a quiet and beautiful area with a lovely & diverse garden. During our stay, Tino and Petra, two German long-term WWOOFers, were there, as well as a few holiday guests. During other times of the year it might be more busy. Tino and Petra welcomed us warmly with homemade pizza and were always very helpful and friendly. We worked together with them in the garden and the chicken coop, which was really enjoyable, and we learned a few things about permaculture. There isn’t much to do in the village itself, but Tino sometimes took us along to the local market, and otherwise we got around by hitchhiking. If that’s not for you rumor has it that uber works quite well around here. Overall we had a nice time and wish them all the best!

I was at the farm for two weeks and stayed in one of the (permanently parked) caravans, simple but nice! The work was mostly weeding, and i.e. handling the compost and biochar, taking away caterpillars from kale, mulching. Some days I worked more hours and some less, maximum 4 h in one day (in total 15h /week). I appreciated that I could adjust a bit to surf conditions and weather! I worked on my own or with another woofer. Thinking back now, I think I’d learned more if we had had someone working together with us, discussing what’s growing and how etc. Alexis was on vacation so Petra and Tino were in charge, they are doing a great job with the gardens and are super friendly. I don’t speak german which sometimes made it tricky but we made it work! I really enjoyed that it was calm and close to nature, and to work in a beautiful setting. Also had many nice sunsets from the kitchen/social space, and watching stars while having a fire going. The outdoor kitchen is protected from weather and has all you need to cook your own food. I also bought fresh produce from the farm, convenient! A few other woofers were there at the same time which was nice, since we didn’t have much time with the farm crew. And the toilets are flushable and good! No hot water from the taps in bathroom or kitchen, but showers are warm in sunny days. Thank you Philipp, Petra and Tino!

We really enjoyed our time at Global Chill Farm. We ended up arriving last minute after our first farm didn’t work out, and we were very glad we did. The caravans are very comfortable and the communal space/kitchen is nice and easy to use! (No oven). Alexis does a great job with the garden and the WWOOF volunteers, and once it stopped raining we had a great time prepping the beds and planting for the upcoming season. The surrounding area is also very beautiful and so worth exploring. We arrived without a car and thankfully were still able to explore thanks to rides from others on the farm and a long walk to the closest grocery store, but I do think a car/van is helpful for the location! Make sure to note that volunteers do not get food provided for them, as this is different from many other farms. Overall would recommend!

I had a wonderful experience at the "Global Chill Farm", its a nice area and cool project with a large garden. The infrastucture is great, with warm showers and flushable toilets and the kitchen offers many free-time activites. The people where very nice and i absolutely recommend this wwoofing project!
