Olá amigo/s! We are a small family living in the heart of South West Alentejo in Portugal, a very interesting alternative area close to many small farms and communities we are connected with, as well as local markets, amazing beaches, and a beautiful paradise river called “Pego das Pias”. We are Ofir, originally from Israel, Emilia from Sweden, and our daughter Alva, who was born here in Portugal in a beautiful home birth :) Alva is 7 years old. She is a true nature child – very wild, happy, and social! For the past years we have been running an ethical clothing business from home, and our aim is to create a self-sustainable permaculture and art community here together with a few more families. We are vegans for a long time and very connected to healthy food and lifestyle. We wish to inspire everyone who stays with us to eat delicious and nutritious vegan food. Emilia is a professional raw food chef, so if you are interested, she can teach many nice things in this area! We both practice yoga and meditation, we LOVE massage, and we have a strong connection to tantra practice. We enjoy music and dance, good vibes, and joyful living. Before settling in Portugal, we were both global travelers for many years (Ofir traveled and worked in more than 20 countries around the world), gaining knowledge in many different areas, which gave us a good base for starting our community project. Our main focus right now is preparing our summer garden. This year we decided to prepare new raised beds (Lasagna), so the main focus will be on that, as well as planting seeds in the greenhouse, planting plans and trees, and taking care of the existing trees. This is a great opportunity for someone who has done a permaculture course and wants to practice and deepen their knowledge, or someone new with a lot of enthusiasm to learn. We wish that you, as a volunteer, will bring your unique gifts and skills to our place and help in the areas that feel most natural and inspiring for you. We are mainly looking for experienced gardeners, but new and enthusiastic garden lovers are also welcome. We would prefer volunteers who have their own van to sleep in, as our accommodation is limited. We have plenty of space to park vans, accommodation depends on availability. We would like you to join us for a longer period of time, at least one month (preferably longer). We ask for around 4 hours of work per day, 5 days a week. Our kitchen is 100% VEGAN. We will take care of your basic dry foods such as grains, legumes, oats, spices, and some fruits and vegetables, but the rest you will need to take care of yourself. We have a fully equipped community kitchen for everyone to use, a dry compost toilet, and a community shower. During the week we often eat together lunch and the rest of the time it is more free-style – sometimes we eat together, sometimes separately. For more info, please contact us by email. We are looking forward to hearing from you :) Organic methods: Our garden is 100% organic, using compost and compost tea. Certifications: We grow only organic food, but not professionally, so we don’t have certification. Type of work: At the moment, our main project is preparing the summer garden.
