WE ARE STARTING TO IMPLEMENT A AGROFORESTRY ORCHARD!
It will be a beautiful endeavour and all help is most needed right away!!
//HOW IT ALL STARTED
The creation of OMMM was motivated by a realisation that the way our society is structured is resulting in many imbalances: in nature and for living beings of all kingdoms (mineral, vegetable, animal and hominal). In such model very few individuals benefit from the great majority, causing more damage than good thus resulting in what is experienced as evil: disease (imbalance in the body), unhappiness (imbalance in the mind), scarcity (imbalance in nature). The exhaustion of this model creates a constant state of entropy and thus the whole system tends to scarcity and further collapse. In our quest for an alternative we came to realise that any change in this obsolete model won’t work because the problem lays in its foundations. Therefore we want to start anew with a model based on values, ethics and practices allowing for health, happiness and abundance to be manifested for all beings.
Our goal is to create a micro-scale community to further derive a model based on the ancient philosophies of Yoga —which takes care of Man & Permaculture —which takes care of the Earth thus bringing balance between Man and Nature.
The acronym OMMM stands for "O Mundo Mais Maravilhoso” or The Most Wonderful World. Inspired by Charles Eisenstein’s work we believe the most beautiful world our hearts know is possible. And we are working towards its manifestation.
//LOCATION
We are located near Serra da Estrela in a beautiful valley crossed by a creek. It offers a bit of everything, running water in a valley, a bit of rocky hill southward, plain fields up north. Although located at a walking distance from the village there are no nearby neighbours giving OMMM a nice, very quiet and calm atmosphere, surrounded only by nature.
//PEOPLE
At this moment Sanctuario OMMM is conducted by me, Alessandra and managed by Gabriela. We are 4 people plus 2 cats and 1 dog living here, soon to expand :-)
If you come to Sanctuario OMMM we’ll be spending time together during the volunteering hours as we’ll be guiding and mostly working along with you until you are conformable with the task. Apart from the schedule you are free to take time for yourself, taking walks, resting, reading, visiting nearby locations or anything you would like as long as it respects OMMM guidelines further presented.
//MAIN TASKS
You will have a hands-on approach in implementing and managing eco-systems and regeneration and food production.
Right now the main tasks are:
AGROFORESTRY IMPLEMENTATION: designing and planting agroforestry systems, collecting cuttings, planting seedlings, mulching etc.
Around the GARDEN: creating new raised beds, planting seedlings, weeding, watering, fencing, compost making etc.
In the FOREST: pruning, chopping, composting, watering, planting new trees, terrace building, fencing etc.
In the LAKES and creek: cleaning, pruning, removing sand, planting new trees and aquatic plants etc.
//WORK HOURS
Work hours are usually distributed according the weather. Usually we work by early morning and distribute the work hours whenever the temperatures are mostly mild. Activities will be scheduled on a day-to-day basis based on weather conditions and on the nature of the task itself and you will be informed ahead.
Depending on the number of WWOOFers you may be asked to come and help with meal preparations and clean up for both breakfast and lunch.
//FOOD & BEVERAGES
Here at OMMM we honour and respect all life forms, so only vegetarian/vegan food is allowed. Even though we have a very large property no animal should be purposely harmed or consumed within our perimeters. Alcohol is also not allowed because it induces a low consciousness mode we don’t want to engage with.
//MEALS & KITCHEN ACCESS
OMMM offers you 2 served vegan/vegetarian meals which are eaten at the main house: breakfast and lunch.
A third meal - dinner - is offered based on mostly sandwiches, yogurt, smoothies, snacks and fruit which you can help yourself with.
Kitchen access is allowed only during stablished meal times.
//ACCOMMODATION
Right now we can offer you a camp site with a dry toilet and an outdoor shower. If you are backpacking and don’t have a tent, we can provide one for you. Hot showers can be offered in the main house but only once in a while due to energy saving procedures.
You are welcome to bring your camper van or trailer if you wish. There’s plenty of parking space.
We only accept volunteers when weather is favourable i.e. from March to September making it nice being and working outside.
Please mention your accommodation needs upon application so we can be prepared to have you.
//INTERNET ACCESS
OMMM has a WiFi hotspot service around the main house. However you are encouraged to leave your phone during your volunteering hours to be better present with the task you are performing.
//ADMISSION PROCEDURE
Once you place your request I’ll carefully evaluate it and check if timings match. If so, we’ll exchange messages to clarify any questions you might have and finally we’ll schedule a video call so we can get to know each other a bit before advancing.
