Self-sufficient family in central Portugal

We are a Dutch family with two sons aged 10 and 12. We emigrated to Portugal 4 years ago because we longed to live with and in nature. We grow our own fruit and vegetables, have our own honey, olive oil and eggs. We generate our own electricity and have our own water from a water mine on our land.
We have chickens, 3 lovely dogs and 3 cats.
at the moment we are looking for a volunteer who has experience in building. moving sliding doors and building walls and possibly plastering. Forest cutting and bush cutting may also be one of the activities. If interested, fun activities could also be done with our children.

3. Hoe zou de dag van een WWOOFer er op jouw locatie uit kunnen zien (tijdspanne voor deelname aan activiteiten, verwachtingen...)?
we work in the morning from about 9 to 1 . Then we have lunch and then we are off! Hours can be worked also in afternoon, whats needed on that day and what you prefer..
4. Jij bent de gids! Vertel over je eigen hobby's (muziek, koken, etc.) en de mogelijkheden in de buurt (wandelen, zwemmen, etc.):
We love being in nature. We love going to local and also hippy markets around here. And of course to the beautiful river beaches with the kids, which are around here a lot.
There are nice villages and towns to visit, waterfalls and beautiful hiking trails to walk.

I have now stayed over a month at Merel‘s and Sven‘s wonderful farm and I am extending my stay because this place is just so wonderful, welcoming and warm 🥰 I felt as a part of the family from the first minute on and it still feels the same after weeks. I was welcomed with open arms and I feel appreciated every day. Merel and Sven are very kind, generous, funny, smart, communicative, fair and honest people and made/make it very easy for me to feel at home here. Besides the lovely environment and atmosphere, I really enjoy the diversity of the work: on the land (gardening, building a green house…), baking/cooking (recently just started making sourdough), activities with the kids (playing, crafts,… - we recently also made a mosaic table out of recycled tiles). The accommodation is also really luxurious and private at the same time (with my own entrance): I have my own bedroom, bathroom and kitchen space to use. We share most of the lunches and dinners together, while still having the option to cook my own meals if I wanted for some more alone time. The land offers a direct access to the river (for swimming or using the kayak) and the area has some fantastic hikes as well. I was also really pleased with the fact that I could bring my dog with me and it was easy to integrate him with the gang of three dogs as they are really lovely as well 🐾 🥰 Thank you, Merel and Sven, for this lovely and ongoing experience 🤩

This place is amazing. We felt so welcomed by the whole family. They all are nice and lovely. The kids are very cool and their land is stunning!! You can jump in the beautiful river everyday :) We did some work on the land, in the vegetable garden, but also in the kitchen and with the kids. Highly recommend this place, we loved it there and would definitely come back <3
