Ecological Guesthouse Deluxe
Santarém
Bom dia,
Conscious world traveler with a massively positive attitude!! We are looking for volunteers to spend some time at our Quinta das Riquezas. We are looking for enthusiastic people who like to get involved in our projects. We have a preference for those who like to stay longer, with a minimum of 3 weeks.
At this stage, there is a variety of things to do. We are building and renewing the house and the other buildings. We have a lot of land that needs to provide us with food and drinks. And we love to have fun, relax, and enjoy each other company.
More about us. We are Pieter, age 57 but young at heart, and Marcella, age 36 and wise as a matriarch. We love being different and are full of energy. We have been together for 14 years, married 3 times with each other (without any divorce) with a first-timer at Burningman Festival.
Last year Pieter sold his BREWBOYSBAR in Amsterdam after 17 years. I have been part of that since I met him. We organized DJ nights, live performances, and fun activities, and made our award-winning craft beer. Besides that, we had a festival beer bar on wheels and a Bed & Breakfast at our home in Amsterdam.
We always knew we wanted to change our lives, leave the city buzz, and live more in nature. Now we make our paradise in the center of Portugal, in the ‘Valley of 1000 colors of green’.
In 2024, we fell in love with an old Quinta on 1.2 ha. of agricultural land. Here we extend our journey based on our core values, food, drinks, shelter, and love. Quinta das Riquezas will be our Ecological Guesthouse Deluxe, a harmonious eco-conscious place surrounded by luxury.
Check our Instagram or Facebook to get a sneak preview.
At this moment we are busy with design for the (guest)house, the land (with a spa area including an organic pool and sauna), and the other buildings on the property. Right now, we do a lot of preparations inside the Quinta and on the land. We will turn 6 bedrooms into 4 bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms. Install hot water panels and start with our permaculture garden to grow our food.
Apart from a great personality, preference will be given to those who;
- have experience in carpentry, concrete pouring, plumbing, electricity, and any other (or all;-)) handyman skills,
- have green thumbs or any experience with small (regenerative) agriculture, greenhouse knowledge,
- are creatives or designers with concrete executed work to share,
- can convince us otherwise…
The work is flexible but will be 5 days a week 8 hours a day. We have a set rhythm and always start early in the morning, depending on the weather…
We tend to have more volunteers staying with us from now onwards, so there should be more company apart from us, the 2 dogs, and the chickens and the bees. We encourage you to bring a friend...
We love sharing our skills and meeting new people and look forward hearing from you. The more you share with us about yourself, the easier it becomes for us to decide.
What is your motivation to come to us?
What skills are you going to contribute?
What do you like to learn?
I’t important to make sure to go to the Quinta on your own transport. There is a
flight to Lisbon and a bus ride to Tomar City, from there to the Quinta you could go by bus or high hicking?
In general, we eat plant-based food, sometimes a piece of meat is fine. We will make fresh lunch and dinner for you every day. Breakfast you can make yourself. Always healthy and nutritious.
Good to know we have Starlink super fast internet.
We want to make your stay fun. Besides work, we have meals together, make music, and share stories and ideas. We live near a lovely river and the mountains with plenty of swimming, wakeboarding, and trail walking options to complete a fantastic stay with us,
Tchau-Tchau| Pieter & Marcella

Marcella and Pieter kindly welcomed us earlier than planned, after a first wwoofing experience that unfortunately did not go as expected.
They greeted us with open arms, and we immediately felt comfortable with them. They are truly exceptional hosts. They even upgraded our accommodation by offering us to stay in one of their freshly renovated rooms: beautiful, comfortable, and private.
During your stay, you will enjoy some of the best food of your life. Marcella is an incredible and inspiring chef, always experimenting with new recipes made entirely from their garden’s produce. 👩🏼🍳🫑
They are two truly inspiring people, emotionally intelligent, and filled with an incredibly positive mindset. They will gladly take you along on their wonderful adventure with their two dogs, Canis and Boneca. 🐶🐕
Unfortunately, we couldn’t stay as long as planned due to personal reasons, but they showed us immense kindness, support, and care. Our conversations with them gave us wonderful advice that changed the way we see things moving forward.
Marcella and Pieter, thank you!

My first WWOOF experience - and they’ve set the bar incredibly high!
I truly enjoyed my time with Pieter and Marcella and could not have asked for a better experience.
From the very first day, I was welcomed with open hearts and felt like I could truly be myself - and that meant a lot to me.
I had the chance to help with various tasks: working in the garden, helping with some renovation projects, and supporting daily activities. The work was meaningful and well-paced, and I always felt supported and trusted.
I was lucky to stay in one of their beautifully renovated rooms - a true gift that reflected how kind they are.
The food made by Marcella was absolutely incredible - some of the best vegetarian meals I’ve had in years - made with fresh ingredients picked straight from their organic garden.
Outside of work, they made space for me to rest, explore the area, join local gatherings, and feel part of their world. My personal space was always respected, while the conversations we shared made me feel deeply connected.
The land, the home, and the people — all carry a sense of magic. ☺️

You will have one of your best times of your lifes if you fully commit to all processes at Quinta das Riquezas. Marcella and Pieter are great hosts. The accommodation for volunteers is very agreeable and the food is excellent. Marcella is a great chef! Pieter will carefully and gently lead you through all kinds of working tasks on this breathtaking property! Minimum four weeks stay is recommended; exploring the area around the village and a weekend trip to Nazaré are highly recommended. I will definitely come back to Quinta das Riquezas in 2026. What are you volunteers waiting for?! ;)

I spent 4 weeks at the quinta with Marcella and Pieter and had a great time. They are really wonderful people wich you can learn a lot from. The work could be hard and not so fun at times, but you do a lot of different things through the day so overall it was nice. When you are finished work you could sit back, have a beer (or gin tonic) and enjoy the peace and beauty of the portoguese countryside together with these houmorous, knowledgable and generally really nice people. You feel at home and free to be yourself and thats what matters most. I would highly recommend going here and i wish i stayed longer. I will definetly be back.
All the best from me and the Lord

Although my time at the quinta was short, I enjoyed my stay very much. Pieter and Marcella are two positive and super hard working people. They manage to create a really open vibe where you can always speak up if something is going on. The quinta is beautiful with great places to relax which they are happy to facilitate for you. I loved my naps in the hammock and fatboy. Moneka and Kanes are great dogs that i'm gonna miss very much now im gone. Pieter and Marcella take you into their house which means you'll join in their free-time adventures sometimes as well, which is really fun. If you like hard work and a good time, you'll have a great experience.
