The Cascais Permaculture Association & the Study Permaculture platform are a school, office and regenerative education garden in the foothills of the Serra da Sintra national park in Cascais; and have sister centres around the mediterranean. We are also a certified Permaculture school, issuing PDC certificates having ourselves studied over the years with Geoff Lawton and many other globally recognised teachers, and today collaborate with Geoff and the PRI.
Frustrated by the lack of positive solutions to the global issues we all felt at school and university and hear get reminded of daily on social media, we found that digging deeper, for every major global problem there were already solutions existing and these solutions were green. So deciding that the biggest challenge we have globally was not innovation but simple clear and effective communication, we launched our institute to try to find better ways to recommunicate these green solutions to the next generation. Our team lives around Cascais & Lisboa and work from our newly opened site.
Our typical days in Cascais are developing our regenerative garden, showcasing the latest and greatest strategies from Permaculture, Syntropic Agriculture, Market Gardening, Natural Farming, etc. We are lucky with some of Portugals most beautiful beaches and hiking trails all around us, where we often spend time daily as a team, making sure that regeneration starts with ourselves. We are aware on WOOF most hosts are small families and family run businesses, so we should be clear our offer is a little different. As with our team of co-founders and students, we are all very independent and proactive. Also being an business and not a household, WOOFers will have more freedom to create their own schedules, and enjoy the incredible beauty of the surrounding cities, countryside and coastline, including using our extended network of regenerative farmers, businesses, and friends, all over Portugal and globally. We can also add that collectively our project has many decades of organic farming experience and regenerative design experience, commercially and as consultants globally, working on very large and very small projects, with ecosystem restoration and green architecture projects.
We have several nicely furnished rooms available for volunteers or camping spaces and we cook together as a team with the staff who are living onsite, using produce from our organic gardens and local markets. We are mostly vegetarian, but open to all backgrounds.
Monday-Friday our office co-working space is also shared by our team and long term students.
If you are interested and passionate to develop and spread positive environmental action around the world and to see green solutions being implemented on a mainstream global level to solve our current societal crises, you have found yourself in the right space. Looking forward to meeting you and setting up a short discovery call to get to know you.

We spent six weeks with Mostafa and Bevis in Malveira de Serra. It was really great! Thanks to them, we had the opportunity to live in the middle of Portugal's beautiful countryside and explore it every day on various excursions. Working and learning about nature was great fun. We spent most of our time in the garden doing a variety of tasks. Our four wonderful cats were always by our side. We also had the opportunity to cook every day, which we really enjoyed, and the meals we shared together were always very nice. If you want to have plenty of free time between work and learning to go on exploring tours, then this is the place for you. Mostafa and Bevis are two very warm-hearted people who enjoy sharing their knowledge, and we are very grateful to have spent time with them. We highly recommend a stay on the farm and would love to do it again anytime.

Staying with Bevis was great. The energy at the farm is young and vibrant, the location is amazing; close enough to the sea and Cascais to swim, surf, and visit Lisbon. Bevis is super kind, he knows a lot about permaculture and other related topics on sustainability and shares his knowledge generously. the room is amazing, the 4 kittens are AMAZING, I’d go back :) thnx Bevis!
