Hello WWOOFERs, Our family live here on our farm with our dogs in the lovely Portuguese countryside. We are very lucky to live in such a beautiful spot with sea views surrounded by mountains in the woodlands. Our days vary from small scale construction projects to repairs and general maintenance. There are dogs on site and we are awaiting a new delivery of chickens. It would be great to have some help to perhaps get the veg garden up and running again and to help out with our visitors. Maybe also cooking and keeping the place tidy would be a big help. As well as tree cutting for wood. Therefore we need someone self motivated who works independently as well as part of a bigger team. We have a beautiful tree house, with lots of space (plus a wood burning stove) a comfy bed and lots of private space for WWOOFers. Meals can be made in the main house or using the outside kitchen. We have a mix of vegan and meat eaters, Fonte Santa (a beautiful old roman healing bath) is very nearby as well as the reservoir. A few kilometers away is a pretty municipal pool and there's loads of hiking trails around. The brand new board walk hike is a 5 minute drive. Alferce and Monchique are very close and we have a car that can be used by workers. We would prefer long term wwoofers who wants to stay for one month minimum ideally.

We stayed with Zubia 10 out of 30 planned days. The profile advertised an organic farm with many learning opportunities, but there were no gardens, growing veggies, animals, or permaculture projects. Instead, we decluttered a big container, cleaned, did maintenance, and managed Airbnb business tasks, including check-ins, gatekeeping late at night, and even resolving issues such as bed bugs. The original agreement was not upheld: the work agreement was 25h/week with 2 days off, but we had no full day off, often worked longer hours, and were asked to stay in standby (for receiving instructions, calls, guests returning around midnight). Some tasks would have involved dangerous tools/equipment without proper protection (scaffolding, chainsaws). Instead of a private cottage with hot water, the cottage was shared with family members and the shower was cold due to a broken boiler. Since the “farm” is super remote, a car was promised to be available for us, yet it was mostly unavailable; we only had it once for 2h and once for 5h. Communication was inconsistent: we received praise for our good work, yet in the end were kicked out without prior notice or feedback. Promises were often not kept, and when we raised safety concerns after a burglary happened on-site, we were blamed for the burglary. Our private phone number was shared with guests without consent. We share this review so others can make an informed decision.

I stayed for 2 weeks with this family in the beautiful Portuguese countryside. The farm has stunning sea and mountain views and plenty of nature nearby. The work was varied from small construction and gardening to helping with the dogs... They value self-motivated helpers. Accommodation is comfortable in a converted container with air conditioning, and meals are shared in the main house or outdoor kitchen. Evenings often included relaxed BBQs, which were a lovely way to unwind. Nearby there are hiking trails, a reservoir, local pools, and charming towns to explore. Overall, a welcoming and rewarding experience, perfect for anyone wanting to experience farm life.
