ABOUT US
🇬🇧Hello, my name is Pia and I live with my husband and our baby on a beautiful farm in rural Portugal near the Spanish border. We have a dog and are planning to get more animals. Our goal is to build our property into a thriving, nature-rich garden with farm animals.
🇵🇹Olá, o meu nome é Pia e vivo com o meu marido e o nosso bebé numa quinta bonita no interior de Portugal, perto da fronteira com Espanha. Temos um cão e estamos a planear ter mais animais. O nosso objetivo é construir um estilo de vida mais próximo da natureza e parcialmente autossuficiente, com foco no trabalho com a terra.

Wir haben einen Hund und planen die Anschaffung weiterer Tiere. Unser Ziel ist es, unser Grundstück in einen Garten voller Pflanzen und Hoftiere zu verwandeln.

ABOUT THE FARM
🇬🇧We have only recently taken over the farm, and unfortunately it was neglected during the last two years by a temporary owner. Together with the original builders, we are now working to restore the farm to its former glory.
Our main focus lies on the land: we care for around 260 olive trees (olive harvest in November), 12–15 fig trees, 3 lemon trees, 5 grapevines, and large prickly pear cacti. All of these need regular maintenance, pruning, and attention. We are also planning to introduce sheep soon for natural landscape management.
Many areas are currently overgrown, especially with blackberry bushes, which partly threaten existing fruit trees—but we have already made good progress. We are transforming some of our sloped meadows into bee-friendly mediterranean hillside gardens and experimenting with sustainable gardening methods such as the no-dig method (using cardboard) and building a compost system. I am also currently starting a herb and vegetable garden.
In addition, there are practical projects everywhere: repairing pergolas, clearing and creating paths, building fences and animal shelters. At the moment, we have more tasks than we can manage on our own and truly appreciate any help. We expect at least 3 hours of help per day. I always have plenty of ideas for things that need to be done, but you are welcome to share your own preferences and take on tasks that match your interests or skills.

🇵🇹Assumimos a quinta há pouco tempo e, infelizmente, ela foi negligenciada nos últimos dois anos por uma proprietária temporária. Juntamente com os construtores originais, estamos agora a trabalhar para devolver à quinta o seu antigo esplendor.
O nosso foco principal está na terra: cuidamos de cerca de 260 oliveiras (colheita das azeitonas em novembro), 12–15 figueiras, 3 limoeiros, 5 videiras e grandes figos-da-índia. Todas estas plantas precisam de manutenção e poda regulares. Também planeamos ter ovelhas em breve para a gestão natural da paisagem.
Muitas áreas estão atualmente muito crescidas, especialmente com silvas, que em alguns casos ameaçam árvores de fruto — mas já fizemos bons progressos. Estamos a transformar alguns terrenos inclinados em jardins mediterrânicos favoráveis às abelhas e a experimentar métodos sustentáveis como o método no-dig (com cartão) e a criação de compostagem. Neste momento estou também a iniciar uma horta de ervas aromáticas e vegetais.
Além disso, há projetos práticos por todo o lado: reparar pérgolas, criar e limpar caminhos, construir cercas e abrigos para animais. Neste momento temos mais trabalho do que conseguimos gerir sozinhos e agradecemos muito qualquer ajuda. Esperamos pelo menos 3 horas de ajuda por dia. Tenho sempre muitas ideias de tarefas, mas são muito bem-vindos a sugerir atividades que correspondam aos vossos interesses ou competências.

🇩🇪Wir haben den Hof gerade erst übernommen und leider ist er die letzten zwei Jahre von einer vorübergehenden Besitzerin vernachlässigt worden. Zusammen mit den ursprünglichen Erbauern sind wir nun dabei, den Hof wieder zum alten Glanz zu erwecken.
Unser Hauptfokus liegt auf dem Land: Wir kümmern uns um etwa 260 Olivenbäume (Olivenernte im November), 12–15 Feigenbäume, 3 Zitronenbäume, 5 Weinstöcke sowie große Feigenkakteen. All diese Pflanzen brauchen regelmäßige Pflege und Schnitt. Außerdem planen wir, bald Schafe zur natürlichen Landschaftspflege anzuschaffen.
Viele Flächen sind aktuell stark zugewuchert, insbesondere mit Brombeeren, die teilweise sogar Obstbäume bedrohen – hier sind wir aber schon gut vorangekommen. Wir möchten einige Hangwiesen in bienenfreundliche mediterrane Hanggärten umgestalten und probieren nachhaltige Gartenmethoden aus, wie die No-Dig-Methode mit Pappe sowie den Aufbau eines Komposts. Aktuell lege ich außerdem einen Kräuter- und Gemüsegarten an.
Darüber hinaus gibt es viele praktische Projekte: Pergolen reparieren, Wege anlegen und freischneiden sowie Zäune und Unterstände bauen. Momentan haben wir mehr Aufgaben, als wir alleine schaffen, und sind über jede Hilfe sehr dankbar. Wir erwarten mindestens 3 Stunden Mithilfe pro Tag. Ich habe immer viele Ideen für Aufgaben, die anstehen, aber ihr könnt auch gern eigene Wünsche äußern und euch Tätigkeiten aussuchen, die euch besonders liegen oder die ihr schon immer mal ausprobieren wolltet.

ABOUT YOUR STAY
🇬🇧With us, you will have a holiday apartment at your disposal, either alone, as a pair, or as a group—up to a maximum of four people. The apartment is especially suitable for couples or small groups of friends. It is fully equipped, with a well-equipped kitchen, a stylish bathroom, a separate bedroom, a double sofa bed, and an additional fold-out bed, as well as a private sunny terrace.
In daily life, we usually provide groceries and you cook for yourselves in your own kitchen. At the same time, we really value a warm and friendly atmosphere: we enjoy spending time together, sharing dinners, and regularly having a “cafezinho” together. Since we live quite close to each other, a respectful and relaxed coexistence is important to us. Because of our baby, there are also times when things are a bit quieter and I may need to step away.
🇵🇹Conosco, terão à vossa disposição um apartamento de férias, sozinhos, a dois ou em grupo — até um máximo de quatro pessoas. O apartamento é especialmente adequado para casais ou pequenos grupos de amigos. Está totalmente equipado, com uma cozinha bem equipada, casa de banho elegante, quarto separado, sofá-cama de casal, cama extra dobrável e um terraço privado ao sol.
No dia a dia, normalmente fornecemos alimentos e vocês cozinham na vossa própria cozinha. Ao mesmo tempo, valorizamos muito um ambiente familiar: gostamos de passar tempo juntos, jantamos juntos e beber regularmente um “cafezinho”. Como vivemos próximos, é importante para nós uma convivência respeitosa e descontraída. Devido ao nosso bebé, há também momentos em que preciso de me retirar e em que o ambiente é mais tranquilo.
🇩🇪Bei uns steht euch allein, zu zweit oder als kleine Gruppe bis maximal vier Personen eine Ferienwohnung zur Verfügung. Die Wohnung eignet sich besonders gut für Paare oder kleine Freundesgruppen. Sie ist voll ausgestattet mit einer gut ausgestatteten Küche, einem schönen Bad, einem separaten Schlafzimmer, einer Doppel-Schlafcouch, einem weiteren Ausklappbett sowie einer privaten Sonnenterrasse.
Im Alltag stellen wir euch in der Regel Lebensmittel zur Verfügung, die ihr in eurer eigenen Küche selbst zubereiten könnt. Gleichzeitig ist uns ein herzliches, familiäres Miteinander wichtig: Wir verbringen gern Zeit zusammen, essen gemeinsam zu Abend und trinken regelmäßig einen „cafezinho“. Da wir hier eng zusammenleben, ist uns ein entspanntes und respektvolles Miteinander wichtig. Durch unser Baby gibt es aber auch ruhigere Phasen, in denen ich mich zwischendurch zurückziehen muss.

ABOUT THE SURROUNDINGS
🇬🇧The surroundings here are wonderful. Just wandering around our 10 hectares of land full of trees, rocks, and little adventures is already great fun. On foot, you can quickly reach the small town of Castelo de Vide, which is full of cultural offerings and sights. Other beautiful places to visit are also not far away. The area is fantastic for hiking, with numerous trails passing right by our house. Anyone who loves nature will definitely enjoy it here!
🇵🇹A paisagem aqui é maravilhosa. Só passear pelos nossos 10 hectares de terreno cheios de árvores, rochas e pequenas aventuras já é muito divertido. A pé chega-se rapidamente à vila de Castelo de Vide, que está cheia de ofertas culturais e pontos de interesse. Também não fica longe de outras localidades bonitas para visitar. A região é excelente para caminhadas, com vários trilhos que passam mesmo ao lado da nossa casa. Quem gosta de natureza vai sentir-se muito bem aqui!
🇩🇪Die Umgebung hier ist traumhaft. Schon allein das Umherstrolchen auf unseren 10 Hektar Land voller Bäume, Felsen und Abenteuern macht wahnsinnig Spaß. Zu Fuß ist man schnell im Örtchen Castelo de Vide, das vor kulturellen Angeboten und Sehenswürdigkeiten platzt. Auch in andere sehenswerte Orte ist es nicht weit. Die Gegend ist eine wahnsinnig schöne Wandergegend. Zahlreiche Wanderpfade führen direkt an unserem Haus vorbei. Wer die Natur liebt, kommt hier nicht zu kurz!

Pia and Max (and super cute baby Benjamin) are not only amazing hosts, but also true friends and wonderful people to spend time with. I spent more than three weeks with them in a beautiful and unique place that I had the chance to fully explore and enjoy.
The work was varied and flexible, so there was always something interesting to do and never any feeling of boredom or routine. If one task doesn’t suit you, it’s easy to switch to something else.
Pia and Max were also incredibly kind and helpful outside of work: they happily showed me around the area and were always willing to help whenever I needed to arrange something or get somewhere.
On top of that, I really enjoyed our evenings together – delicious dinners, Max’s serious jokes and our conversations about everything made the whole stay feel even more warm, welcoming, and special.
I truly wish this wonderful young family all the best with their future projects and plans, I’m glad that I could be a part of it and I’m very grateful for everything.
