Welcome to Machada 🌿 Machada is a living place in nature in Portugal - part retreat space, part creative playground, part study center for human connection, presence, and a more natural way of living together. People come here to slow down, breathe deeper again, reconnect to themselves, and experience a different rhythm of life. Not based on pressure, performance, or rushing - but on participation, honesty, creativity, nature, and shared daily life. This is not a hotel and not a polished retreat resort. It is a real, evolving place with soul, vision, animals, gardens, projects, ideas, beauty, chaos, growth, laughter, deep talks, sunsets, shared meals, music, silence, hard work, and meaningful moments in between. At Machada, you can expect things like: – living close to nature – community dinners and spontaneous conversations under the stars – hands-on building – gardening and reconnecting to the earth – learning about community life and human connection – spaces for reflection, presence, and personal growth – a slower, more grounded rhythm – people from different countries and walks of life – moments of freedom, inspiration, and real togetherness Depending on the season and current projects, volunteers may help with: – building houses with wood or clay – gardening and land care – simple building or maintenance tasks – creative projects and beautifying the space – cooking or helping around the kitchen – organizing spaces and supporting daily life – helping create a warm atmosphere for guests and community life What many people take home from Machada is not only new skills β€” but a different feeling. A feeling of being more connected. More human. More alive. You may learn: – practical skills connected to land – how to live more closely with others – how to communicate more honestly and openly – how community actually works behind the scenes – how to slow down and become more present – how much beauty can exist in simple moments Machada is especially beautiful for people who feel that modern life has become too fast, disconnected, or superficial and want to work again with their hands and not from the chair - and who long for something more real. We welcome people who are responsible, reliable, kind, have a hands on mentality, and willing to participate with heart and hands. You do not need to be perfect. You do not need to β€œhave it all figured out.” Come as you are Bring your curiosity, your willingness, your energy, your ideas, your laughter, your real self. We are building something from the heart. And maybe you want to leave a trace of you heart here as well.🌞 The kind of help we are looking for 🌿 – hands-on people who enjoy building, repairing, creating, or working with tools – gardening and permaculture projects – helping care for the land and outdoor spaces – supporting the development of a future learning and education project for children and community life – caring for animals, feeding them, cleaning stables, and supporting their wellbeing – kitchen support and shared meal preparation The Morning Starts with a morning circle followed by a breakfast together and work from around 9-14:00 after this we see where the flow takes us. Eather realax at the beach, the beautiful little citty or a market. We have fun! -- One important thing to know:-- We deeply value creativity, initiative, and participation. This is not a place where every small step is controlled or planned out in advance. If you see something beautiful you would love to create β€” we want to hear it. If you have ideas, skills, inspiration, or projects you want to bring alive, there is space for that here. Many volunteers enjoy Machada because they feel trusted to contribute in their own way instead of simply following strict systems all day long. We love people who participate actively, think along, bring ideas, and genuinely enjoy co-creating a living space together. 🌞 Accommodation at Machada is simple, warm, and immersed into nature.🌿 Depending on the season, availability, and length of stay, we offer different sleeping options for volunteers: – shared double rooms – occasional single rooms for longer stays or specific situations – a shared community tent during our volunteer camps, where people sleep, laugh, connect, and experience a shared rhythm of living together – space for campers, campervans, and personal tents for those who enjoy more independence and outdoor living Some people love the coziness of shared indoor spaces, while others enjoy waking up in nature with their own camper or tent. Both are possible here. We provide all meals. We have breakfast around 9, Lunch around 14:00 and dinner we see how we come together after our freetime. Some of the things you can enjoy nearby: – surfing at some of the most beautiful beaches in Portugal – swimming, relaxing, and watching sunsets by the ocean – hiking through stunning coastal landscapes and nature trails – horse riding in nature – visiting local towns, cafΓ©s, markets, and festivals – spontaneous road trips and beach adventures with other volunteers – camping or sleeping at the beach under the stars – music, dancing, and local cultural events – discovering hidden spots around the Algarve Cars are also available at times for volunteers to borrow for little money depending on availability, which gives people flexibility and freedom to explore the region more independently. Many people love the balance here between community life, meaningful projects, nature, freedom, and adventure. 🌞
